8-Day Mt Kenya/Samburu/Olpejeta/Nakuru/Masai Mara Safari

Travel overland north from Nairobi to Serena Mountain Lodge. After lunch engage in some game viewing.</p><p></p><p>Sailing like an ark amid the primeval forests of Kenya's highest mountain, Mount Kenya, this lodge-hotel offers champagne-clear mountain air, sweeping views across the tree-canopy, sparkling trout streams, and gentle forest walks. The open-air viewing-deck looks down on to its own water hole and salt-lick, which attracts numerous herds of elephant and buffalo. <p>Have breakfast. This morning travel to Kenya's northern frontier. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River. <p>Dawn breaks in golden bands as you start our day in the bush by scanning the Samburu shrub land. Have breakfast. Before the dew is off the grass, you will be off in a morning game drive in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve's grasslands and acacia woodlands. <p>After breakfast, travel overland to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Check into your tented camp ; have lunch. Sweetwaters land, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy and its sumptuous ranch were once the private domain of famed multi-millionaire, Adnan Kashoggi. This afternoon game drive takes us to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a charming haven established by the Jane Goodall Institute to provide sanctuary to orphaned chimps, and the specially protected and fenced refuge of black rhino with its stunning forty specimens!</p><p></p><p>In fact Ol Pejeta boasts excellent game viewing with the highest ratio of game to area of any park or reserve in Kenya. Moreover, the camp has its own private waterhole and saltlick so we'll be guaranteed unprecedented close encounters. <p>Breakfast. Depart to the exotic Lake Nakuru National Park located in the Great Rift Valley. After lunch an exciting game drive is planned for the afternoon. The game in this Park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant. The Park is a home to stunning flocks of lesser and Greater Flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores in to a magnificent pink stretch. The bird life here is world renowned and over 400 bird's species exist here, White Pelicans, Plovers, Egrets and Marabou Stork. <p>After breakfast, drive through the dramatic Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara National Reserve. This enormous reserve is actually part of the vast Serengeti plains famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest's migration and is home of the Big Five: Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino. Lunch at the Lodge and relax before departing for the afternoon game drive. The Mara Game Reserve-one of the greatest wildernesses of the world. Large mammals are varied, and easy to see. <p>The search for great predators and perhaps even cubs continues today during extensive game game drives. On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia boughs. During your stay you also have an optional opportunity to visit a village of the Masai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. <p>Early morning game drive in the park, return to lodge for breakfast.
